Ol' Remus offers his opinions as-is, where is. He rarely cites support for his opinions so they are, in that sense, unwarranted. He comes by them largely by having lived and watched and listened rather than by argument or persuasion. His opinions, not having been arrived at by debate are, therefore, not particularly vulnerable to debate. He entertains opposing opinion but he feels no inclination, much less obligation, to discuss or defend his own. Whatever usefulness or amusement readers may find in them is their own business.

Although the sentiment warms Remus's tiny little heart, Woodpile Report has no mechanism for receiving donations or gifts, nor does he accept them by subterfuge.

Woodpile Report does not maintain an archive. Some issues linger on the server until Remus gets around to deleting them. Don't confuse Woodpile Report with a blog. It isn't. It's an olde tymme internet site made by hand and archives are a dispensable chore.

Privacy

Here at Yer ol' Woodpile Report all incoming email is automatically detected and deleted by instantaneously disconnecting before it arrives. Taking no chances, a clever device shreds Remus's hard drive into nanosize filaments and sinters them into a bust of Chopin. Meanwhile, from a hardened and very remote location, he sends a bot that deletes said email on your end by tricking your PC into self-immolation. Other devices vaporize every ISP that handled it and beam the resulting plasma into deep space. Then he sends a strike team of armed pre-med students to administer a prefrontal lobotomy so you can't remember your own birthday much less writing him an email. Finally, all persons in your zip code with the same last name as yours are put into the witness protection program. Now that's privacy.

Where the name came from

What's with the title Woodpile Report? Well, it's this way, from January of 2004 until mid-2007 it was emailed to a subscibers list. In that form it was titled the Woodpile Weather Report. A picture of ol' Remus's woodpile appeared at the top as both a weather report and, by documenting the progression from log pile to chunkwood to a split 'n stacked woodpile, a witness to the seasonal changes. It was the thin thread from which comments hung. As thrilling as all that was, the comments metastasized and took over. But the title remains.

Tactics of the Left
Saul Alinsky's Rules for Radicals

Power is not only what you have, but what the enemy thinks you have

Never go outside the experience of your people.

Whenever possible, go outside the experience of the enemy.

Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules.

Ridicule is man's most potent weapon

A good tactic is one your people enjoy.

A tactic that drags on for too long becomes a drag.

Use different tactics and actions and use all events of the period.

The threat is more terrifying than the thing itself.

Maintain a constant pressure upon the opposition.

If you push a negative hard and deep enough, it will break through into its counterside.

The price of a successful attack is a constructive alternative.

Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, polarize it.

How To Create A Socialist State
by Saul Alinsky

1) Healthcare — Control healthcare and you control the people

2) Poverty — Increase the Poverty level as high as possible, poor people are easier to control and will not fight back if you are providing everything for them to live.

3) Debt — Increase the debt to an unsustainable level. That way you are able to increase taxes, and this will produce more poverty.

4) Gun Control — Remove the ability to defend themselves from the Government. That way you are able to create a police state.

5) Welfare — Take control of every aspect of their lives (Food, Housing, and Income).

6) Education — Take control of what people read and listen to — take control of what children learn in school.

7) Religion — Remove the belief in the God from the Government and schools.

8) Class Warfare — Divide the people into the wealthy and the poor. This will cause more discontent and it will be easier to take (Tax) the wealthy with the support of the poor.

The Five Stages of Collapse
Dmitry Orlov

Financial Collapse. Faith in "business as usual" is lost.

Commercial Collapse. Faith that "the market shall provide" is lost.

Political Collapse. Faith that "the government will take care of you" is lost.

Social Collapse. Faith that "your people will take care of you" is lost.

Cultural Collapse. Faith in the goodness of humanity is lost.

The Five Rules of Propaganda
Norman Davies

Simplification: reducing all data to a single confrontation between ‘Good and Bad', ‘Friend and Foe'.

Disfiguration: discrediting the opposition by crude smears and parodies.

Transfusion: manipulating the consensus values of the target audience for one's own ends.

Unanimity: presenting one's viewpoint as if it were the unanimous opinion of all right-thinking people: drawing the doubting individual into agreement by the appeal of star performers, by social pressure, and by ‘psychological contagion'.

Orchestration: endlessly repeating the same messages in different variations and combinations.”

The Psychology of Cyber Attacks
Robert Cialdini
via securityintelligence.com

Principle of Liking - people tend to form trust with those they’re attracted to, both physically and emotionally

Social Proof - People are motivated more by what others do than a perceived or even quantifiable benefit

Rule of Reciprocation - Humans feel a sense of obligatory quid pro quo

Commitment & Consistency - Most people stick with their original decisions despite information that supports changing their course

Principle of Authority - Authority, whether real or perceived, elicits obedience in many people

Principle of Scarcity - People want to be included in exclusive offers and often make poor choices under pressure

. . . . .

How to prosecute anybody

Look around for "suspicious" behavior, i.e., behavior on the part of a private citizen that can be made to appear suspicious

Ruthlessly probe every element of the "suspect's" life, using the effectively infinite resources of the State, until enough "suspicious" behavior has been amassed

Assemble a huge list of charges to place before a grand jury

Present the case in such a fashion as to promote the less plausible accusations and obscure the more plausible ones, thus securing a grab-bag indictment

Offer the indicted person a plea bargain that will spare him centuries in prison and complete pauperization at the bargain price of a few years and/or a few thousand dollars.

Albert Bierstadt, Merced River Yosemite, 1886

Classic bread-and-butter Bierstadt.

art-remus-ident-04.jpg In this video, the president of Rodrigue’s Coffee House, run by a Fordham University student club, is seen shouting: “Fascism, Nazis!” at College Republicans and telling them they have five minutes to get out. She specifically cites their Make America Great Again hats, a fashion misstatement no wearer of Che Guevara shirts would make.

Campus Reform - Campus coffee shop evicts College Republicans from 'safe space'

One of the College Republicans told Campus Reform, "We went there because we wanted to test the unwritten rule that conservatives were banned from that coffee shop, We went there and just started doing some homework and studying. Then we were asked to leave. We are tuition paying students, therefore we should be able to use any building on campus that we want."

No. You went there to video a confrontation. Be honest. And that's a good thing. But you had no plan for what to do next. Worse, you looked like whiney kids arguing with the hall monitor. Then, apparently, you caved and left. Unless it was your intention to prove College Republicans can be insulted and ejected without consequence by a coffee shop waitress, this is an epic fail.

And no, you weren't "asked" to leave, you were ordered to leave. Rudely and loudly. No adult, certainly no man, defers to an unhinged snowflake whose authority extends to dispensing coffee and making change. If you believe you "should be able to use any building on campus" then do so.

Pull a Rosa Parks. Be calm, be polite, call her bluff. Leave when you're ready to leave. No speeches, no righteous posturing, let her escalate with no prompting from you. Resist the urge to look like you've smelled something bad and light up a cheroot, Clint Eastwood style. Maybe she'll go full retard and have you officially ejected. If Fordham backs her up it's 'game on'. Plan, m' man. They do.

Claire Berlinski's, The Warlock Hunt, posits the exclusion of women from ordinary banter by men out of self-preservation, the return of Victorian norms generally, and full adherence to the Mike Pence Rule, “Never be alone with a woman”. Given the abrupt change in acceptable norms, she concedes men are fools for speaking frankly in their presence, alone or not. Vox Day comments on Berlinski in his essay, Covering for the Monsters:

The grand feminist experiment in sexual equality has failed, brutally. It failed faster than communism. It failed faster than civic nationalism. It failed faster than multiculturalism. Feminism is literally the dumbest, most destructive ideology that has ever been invented, which is no surprise because it was invented by the most neurotic women history has ever known.

Hiroaki Isobe, a solar physician at Kyoto University in Japan, told Live Science:

Now we know the Carrington event was not a special one. Such an event occurs from time to time, roughly about once in 100 years.

But wait. There's more. If the accounts are correct, the Carrington event of 1859 was a weakling compared to the September 1770 event. It also lasted more than twice as long, nine days vs four days.

Next

Arapahoe County Deputies and Colorado State Troopers knew she was armed, she had a long record and had announced she was going to kill cops with an AK-47. So they stopped her car and surrounded it. She wouldn't get out of the car. They say she pointed a gun at them and a little later said she shot at them, which is unlikely because she didn't have a gun, actually. And then:

CBS Denver - New Details Emerge From Bizarre Police Shooting ... in about 30 minutes, from approximately 75 feet away, deputies and troopers fired 55 rounds at Johnson’s car from AR-15 rifles, .40 caliber pistols, and a shotgun. Not a single round hit her... at least one deputy inadvertently shot up a marked state patrol unit during the unusual standoff.

Includes video. Had there been one steady shooter with a serious rifle it would have been a reprise of Bonnie and Clyde. As it is, this p.o.s. walked and the officers look like klown kops. That said, it's understandable why she refused to get out of the car, when the retarded go face to face with amped-up cops it won't end well.

Next

Watch this video. It shows an unarmed man in a motel hallway crawling on his knees as ordered, sobbing and pleading for his life. Slightly drunk, he tries his best to keep up with the cop's Simon Says game. But not well enough. The cop killed him anyway. At his trial he said he feared for his life . He was acquitted. He said he'd do it again the same way. There's no reason to doubt him.

Officer safety is not the highest mandate, nor does it justify killing the innocent for the merest twitch. If he'd murdered an illegal alien like this, or anyone other than a white guy, they'd burn Mesa Arizona to the ground. Even so, for this event and others like it, where the presumption of guilt is equated with expendability, there are always unknowable consequences.

and finally

After three days I was finally able to connect with the remote server at 12:35 Tuesday morning. Grrr. So, no time to tidy up Woodpile Report. Out it goes, as-is. Whadda week.

1949. DeSoto Magazine ad

art-remus-ident-04.jpg The 1949 DeSoto was the first all-new model since 1942. Notice the tail fin bud. DeSoto dates from 1928 when it was first fielded as Chrysler's low priced brand. Through the years it was continually repositioned above and below Dodge and Plymouth. Eventually it was seen as a nuisance and discontinued in 1961 . DeSoto sold well and was known within the industry as well made and a good value.

Stuff you may want to think about
Synopsis with links

The media knew, Sultan Knish - Power corrupts. And that corruption won’t just stop at any neat intersectional line. The myth of the pure revolutionary should have been buried with Stalin, Pol Pot and Che. But the left can’t escape the corrupt conviction that abusing power for a good cause is profoundly different than just abusing power. And so the same sordid dramas keep playing out again. Socialist regimes turn feudal. The revolutionaries become tyrants. Murder for the cause becomes just murder. Redistribution of wealth flows to the redistributors. Civil rights activists turn racist. Male feminists rape. The liars don’t just lie for the cause. They lie for their friends and for themselves.

Equality, American Greatness - Speech and the expression of opinions that fail to recognize the self-chosen identity of another inflict what is now called “dignitary harms.” This new view of equality—that equality requires affirmation by others—is incompatible with our true understanding of freedom. If my equality requires your affirmation—in other words, that you recognize and accept and approve of me as I want to be affirmed and recognized and approved—then my demand for equality must necessarily direct and control and limit what you can say. It will also direct and control what religious beliefs you are allowed to embrace; at least if you mean to embrace them in any meaningful way.

Vegans, Campus Reform - In the Journal of Feminist Geography, Pennsylvania State University sociology professor Anne DeLessio-Parson argues that “hegemonic masculinity implies an imperative to eat meat” and that this helps reify other power hierarchies as well. “Refusing meat therefore presents opportunities, in each social interaction, for the binary to be called into question,” she said, noting that women, for example, may not consider dating men who eat meat, while male vegetarians might end up spending more time in the kitchen as opposed to outside on the grill, all actions which can destabilize gender norms. Vegetarianism isn’t just a lifestyle choice, but a feminist act.

art-remus-ident-04.jpg Hyphenated last name? Check. Pseudo-science jargon? Check. Man-hating feminist? Check.

Warming fraud, Breitbart - After the evidence had been adjusted by tidal records gatekeepers at the global databank Permanent Service for Mean Sea Level (PSMSL) it suddenly showed a sharp and dramatic rise. The authors do not mince their words. They refer to these adjustments as “highly questionable” and “suspicious.” When alarmists in charge of surface temperature datasets make dishonest adjustments to exaggerate the appearance of global warming, it looks like corruption. When alarmists in the entirely separate field of sea level measurement make precisely the same sort of dishonest adjustments in order to accord with the same global warming narrative, it starts to look like a conspiracy.

1938. Omaha Nebraska

art-remus-ident-04.jpg Omaha is a city of 447,000 on the Missouri River at the eastern border of the state. In 1938 the population was half that number. Omaha grew as a transportation hub and a regional center for the Union Pacific, with huge stockyards and four of the five largest meatpacking companies, easily surpassing Chicago by the 1950s.

Bitcoin, Ars Technica - The Bitcoin bubble and tulip bubble are both somewhat unusual because the assets being traded aren't expected to produce any kind of revenue for their owners. When someone buys a technology stock, they expect the company to eventually become profitable and pay dividends. Bitcoin owners don't get interest, dividends, or other benefits from holding bitcoins. It's like a technology stock that's going to be pre-revenue forever. The hodler ideology could be self-fulfilling in much the same way that goldbug ideology is: the more people who come to believe that bitcoins are a good long-term store of wealth, the more it will be a good long-term store of wealth.

Poland, Amerika - Poland has priorities. The Poles get that a market is a distribution system. It is not a god. You do not worship Walmart. A common cultural heritage, a common language and a common religious faith. Christianity provides Poland with two out of the three. That gives Poland a whole lot more to base itself upon than Germany, Great Britain and Amerika, whatever those things still are. Poland fights back against the rot of diversity, consumerism and robotic replacement of its people. Poland will ultimately laugh last and laugh loudest.

Media collapse, Counterpunch - When a system enters into the final stage of its deterioration all the important information flows that support coherent communication breakdown. In this final stage, if this situation is not corrected the system will collapse and die. It has become obvious to nearly everyone that we have reached this stage on the planet and in our democratic institutions. In the background, however, the game of hoarding resources and not redistributing them accelerates; absorbing the sum total of our collective actions and commitments into a singular unacceptable future.

Government unions, Free Beacon - Twenty states are backing a lawsuit seeking to overturn mandatory union membership for public sector employees, arguing that forcing them to pay fees is akin to "the forced subsidization of a political party." Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette pointed to infamous municipal bankruptcies in Detroit and Stockton, Calif. to demonstrate the point. Much of the city's debt was tied directly into pension payments and other generous benefits that brought the city to the brink of collapse. While a private sector bankruptcy affects workers, investors, other stakeholders, a government case hits the entire public.

1938. Greenhills Ohio

art-remus-ident-04.jpg Greenhills was one of three "planned communities" by the Depression-era Resettlement Administration, i.e., pilot project communes. The other two were Greenbelt, Maryland and Greendale, Wisconsin. Population in 1938 was about 2,600. Today it's about 3,600.

Presumably the fire truck driver was a safetyperson. It's now the Greenhills Fire Department .

Even more stuff you may want to think about

Sexual harassment, Traditional Right - No law is more deeply engraved in human nature than that which leads men to make advances towards women and women to flirt with men. It was written there long before history began, before time began to be reckoned. Why? Because it is necessary for the perpetuation of the human race. Today, cultural Marxism seeks to overturn this law. That is not their real objective. Their sole purpose, in their own words, was “negation”, or “negative dialectics” – simply bringing everything down.

Marxist America, Unz Review - Creating a standard and unquestionable narrative on race has been undoubtedly the most successful strategy of cultural Marxist theory and its theoreticians. It first captured the academy, from which it was able to dictate the education of several generations of Americans. It has shaped and limited debate, and defined its parameters, which always continue to evolve, and always toward additional “deconstruction” and “liberation,” which, in fact, means the continued marginalization and destruction of our historic European and Christian civilization.

Multiculturalism, American Thinker - Although the left appears to love third-world immigration, they are not so dogmatically blind as they might seem. While they appear to be digging in to fight for their multicultural grand vision, they will cultivate poor or minority votes only so long as the gambit wins elections. With electoral politics failing them, the planners on the left have little recourse but to find a way to either abolish elections altogether, or turn them into the mere formalities like the Soviets. It is not reasonable to expect the people in power to surrender that power quietly if they are still able to organize a defense. They will fund a street revolution or a bureaucratic coup d’etat as soon as they are able to organize one.

Winning, US Naval Institute - The notions that the U.S. military can win with “precision strikes” or “winning hearts and minds” are fantasy. The military’s leadership has a responsibility to push back hard when told to do anything that would dilute the fundamental responsibility to win wars. For the past two decades, the U.S. military has put more effort into combating climate change and training to prevent sexual harassment than it has into training warriors to kill the enemy. It is time for a shift away from the rudderless drift that has plagued the military since the end of the Cold War and Operation Desert Storm. Battle-hardened commanders who excel at killing too often are passed over for promotion in favor of those with multiple degrees from elite universities who self-select each other for advancement.

There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws.
